The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) is the state’s oldest regulatory agency, established in 1891. While its name reflects its origins in regulating railroads, the RRC has evolved to oversee various industries, including oil and gas, alternative fuels, and pipeline safety. In the realm of alternative fuels, the RRC is dedicated to ensuring the safe transportation, storage, distribution, and use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) across Texas. The Commission enforces state laws and regulations, provides certifications, and offers training programs to individuals and companies involved in CNG-related activities. Through its Alternative Fuels Safety (AFS) department, the RRC conducts examinations, issues licenses, and ensures compliance with safety standards to promote the adoption and safe utilization of alternative fuels within the state.
