Archaea Energy, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the United States. Acquired by bp in late 2022, Archaea specializes in the development, construction, and operation of RNG facilities that capture methane emissions from landfills and agricultural sites, converting waste into low-carbon fuel. Operating approximately 50 sites across 32 states, including Pennsylvania, California, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, Archaea collaborates with landfill and farm owners to transform biogas into pipeline-quality RNG. This sustainable energy source is integrated into existing infrastructure, providing a carbon-neutral alternative for various sectors.
